Teacher, Executive Function Coach
After completing my undergraduate degree in Physical & Health Education and my teacher training at the University of Toronto, I began my career as a grade 8 teacher in the west end of Toronto. I completed my Master’s of Arts in Integrated Studies in Education at McGill University in 2003. I have an additional qualification of Guidance and Career Education and a certification in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction for Teens. My areas of interest include executive function, mental health (especially anxiety), mindfulness, resilience, mindset, the adolescent brain, and healthy use of technology.
The MindPOP (mindful-mindset-plan-organize-prioritize) program was initially created and launched at Royal West Academy (RWA) in Montreal, QC, in 2013.* Its aim was to provide strategies to improve students’ emotional resilience as well as their organizational and time management skills. The program continues to be a school-wide initiative at RWA, delivered to approximately 180 grade 7 students each academic year. While designing and delivering this program at Royal West, I developed a passion for helping young people manage their school work and increase their resilience in order to cope with stress more effectively.
Now living in Kingston, ON, I work as an occasional teacher with the Limestone District School Board and have offered workshops workshops at Queen's, for elite sports teams, for student groups, and for parents & teachers. I am continually looking for ways to help young people in the community build their awareness and increase their skills so that they can progress towards optimal performance and well-being.
*My sincere gratitude to Stephanie Leech-Pepin (creative partner),
Tony Pita (lead administrator), and Jan Mateus (ardent proponent),
for the instrumental roles they played in the development of
the Montreal version of MindPOP.
